Bangladesh urges global action on information integrity at UN forum
  28, April, 2026, 11:58:42:AM

Bangladesh has called for stronger global cooperation to safeguard information integrity, tackle misinformation, and promote inclusive communication at the 48th session of the Committee on Information at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Speaking at the committee’s annual general debate on global communication and public outreach, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative, Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, highlighted the growing threats posed by misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and the misuse of artificial intelligence and digital platforms.

He warned that these challenges are deepening societal divisions and eroding public trust worldwide.

He stressed the need for the responsible use of information and communication technologies and underscored the importance of bridging the digital divide both within and between countries.

The ambassador also highlighted Bangladesh’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, including the deployment of women peacekeepers and called for continued efforts to counter misleading narratives about peacekeeping while promoting accountability and environmental responsibility.

Referring to crises driven by disinformation, he cited the Rohingya situation in Myanmar and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, emphasizing the need for accurate information dissemination and greater global awareness.

Reaffirming Bangladesh’s position, Ambassador Chowdhury said the country remains committed to strengthening global communication efforts in line with the principles and values of the United Nations.
