Ctg administration puts eight shelters on standby amid waterlogging, landslide risk
  8, July, 2026, 11:29:44:AM

BSS) - The Chattogram district administration has directed authorities to

keep eight emergency shelters ready as continuous heavy to very heavy rainfall has heightened the risk

of waterlogging and landslides across the city.

The directive, issued on Tuesday by the Relief and Rehabilitation Branch and signed by Deputy

Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian, follows the latest forecast from the Bangladesh

Meteorological Department, which warned of continued heavy rainfall in the Chattogram division due to

a monsoon low-pressure system over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. The forecast also

indicates the possibility of strong winds in the seaport and coastal regions.

According to the district administration, persistent rainfall over the past several days has inundated

many low-lying areas of Chattogram city and district, causing widespread waterlogging and affecting

residents. The risk of landslides has also increased in the hilly areas.

Authorities have instructed officials to remain prepared to evacuate people from vulnerable locations

to safer places if necessary.

Eight shelters have been kept on standby across four city circles. These are Al-Hera Madrasa and

Rashidiya Madrasa in Chandgaon Circle; YWCA Community School and Imrul Quran Mohibbia Deeniya

Orphanage in Agrabad Circle; Feroz Shah Government Primary School and B-Block Government Primary

School in Kattoli Circle; and Lalkhanbazar Government Primary School and Shaheed Nagar City

Corporation Girls` High School in Baklia Circle.

The directive also instructed the relevant departments to open the shelters immediately and relocate

residents from at-risk areas if the situation deteriorates. The district administration said it is

closely monitoring the overall situation.
