9 Die in Landslides Across Cox’s Bazar, Including Women and Children
  6, July, 2026, 10:28:43:AM

Nine people, including women and children, have died in three separate landslide incidents triggered by heavy rainfall in Cox’s Bazar.

The tragedies occurred amid relentless downpours that lashed the region throughout Monday.

Incident Details
Camp 11 (Balukhali): Four people died after a landslide struck Block C/11 around 3:00 AM on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as Umme Habiba (27), her sister Tanjina Akter (13), and two brothers—Mohammad Rihan (5) and Harunur Rashid (3). One additional person was reported injured.

Camp 15 (Jamtoli): Earlier, at approximately 1:10 AM, a landslide buried the home of Mohammad Kamal Hossain (44) in Block D/6 of the Palongkhali Union. Rescuers recovered the bodies of Kamal Hossain, his wife Humaira Begum (39), and their son Mohammad Anas (4).

Cox’s Bazar Town: A 50-year-old man named Ali Akbar also lost his life in the Light House area of the city during the same period.

Rescue Operations
Dolar Tripura, in-charge of the Ukhiya Fire Service station, stated that the continuous heavy rain caused the collapse of hills onto several settlements.

"We began rescue efforts immediately after receiving reports from Camp 15," said Tripura. "While working there, we received information via the Disaster Management Committee (DMC) group regarding the landslide at Camp 11. Local volunteers had already recovered the four bodies at that location, so our direct intervention was not required there."

Safety Warnings
In response to the ongoing severe weather, authorities are conducting public announcements (miking) in the affected areas, urgently advising residents living at the foothills of slopes to relocate to safer grounds immediately.
