Special Correspondent: Pakistan and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in rice trade, expressing satisfaction over the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on rice trade between the two countries.
The commitment came during a meeting held on Tuesday between Syed Rafeo Bashir Shah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trading Corporation of Pakistan, and Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, Secretary of Bangladesh`s Ministry of Food. Director General of the Directorate General of Food, M. Jashim Uddin Khan, also attended the meeting, alongside Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh His Excellency Imran Haider.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the progress made under the existing rice trade MoU and voiced satisfaction with its implementation.
The meeting also focused on various aspects of trade in essential commodities, including seasonal crop harvests, estimated production, consumption patterns and storage capacities in both countries. The participants exchanged views on ways to further enhance cooperation to ensure food security and facilitate uninterrupted trade.
Reaffirming their shared commitment to closer collaboration, the two sides agreed to maintain close liaison to ensure a steady supply of rice in line with Bangladesh`s requirements.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh in strengthening food supply chains and promoting mutually beneficial trade in essential commodities.
