Manchester–Sylhet Direct Flight Resumes, Civil Aviation Minister Greets Arriving Passengers
  5, July, 2026, 10:13:35:PM

Kamrul Hasan : After remaining suspended for a long period, the direct flight between Manchester, United Kingdom, and Sylhet has resumed under the directive of Prime Minister Tareque Rahman, bringing renewed relief and enthusiasm among Bangladeshi expatriates.

The resumption of the route is being regarded as a significant step toward fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of the Sylhet region. It also reflects the government`s commitment to strengthening air connectivity for expatriates and expanding Bangladesh`s international aviation network.

To mark the occasion, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Ms. Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, welcomed and exchanged greetings with passengers arriving from Manchester at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. She interacted with the passengers, listened attentively to their travel experiences, assessed their views on airport services, and received their suggestions for further improvements. The minister also warmly welcomed the returning expatriates.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the government is consistently working to expand international air connectivity, improve passenger services, and ensure safe, modern, and convenient travel for Bangladeshi expatriates. She noted that the decision to resume the Manchester–Sylhet direct flight was taken in response to the long-standing demand of the large Bangladeshi community, particularly Sylhetis living in the United Kingdom. The direct service is expected to significantly reduce travel time, costs, and inconvenience for passengers.

She further stated that various development initiatives are underway to transform Osmani International Airport into a more modern, passenger-friendly, and internationally competitive airport. The government will continue its efforts to strengthen the country`s civil aviation sector by launching new international routes, expanding existing services, and upgrading airport infrastructure and passenger facilities.

The arriving passengers expressed their appreciation for the government`s initiative to restore the direct flight service. They said that the resumption of the route has made travel much easier and more comfortable after a prolonged suspension, and they expressed hope that the service would continue on a regular basis.

Observers believe that the restoration of the Manchester–Sylhet direct flight will further strengthen ties between Bangladesh and its expatriate community. It is also expected to have a positive impact on tourism, trade, investment, and regional economic activities, while adding new momentum to the development of Bangladesh`s civil aviation sector.
