Police maintain strict vigil in Uttara over garment worker unrest
  4, November, 2026, 11:10:41:AM

Law enforcement agencies, including police personnel, maintained a strict vigil across the Uttara sector of the capital on Wednesday (November 4) morning to avert potential disruptions stemming from ongoing readymade garment worker wage protests.

Despite circulating reports that workers planned to gather near the Jasimuddin area via the Uttarkhan-Dakshinkhan regional road, no workers had occupied the thoroughfares as of 10:30AM.

A spot check near the Rajlakshmi intersection revealed significant deployments of police officers stretching toward the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area, supported by water cannons and prison vans on standby to handle unforeseen incidents.

Traffic movement remained sparse early in the morning before gradually normalizing, while public presence remained relatively low due to weekly market closures in the commercial district.

A traffic police officer serving on-site, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that security forces were on high alert, dismissing rumors of a planned assembly of 2,000 to 2,500 workers as unfounded.
