Banani puja mandap portrays gorgeous Jalojo theme depicting ancient Vedic philosophy
  17, October, 2026, 9:05:38:PM

BSS)- Gulshan-Banani Sarbojanin Puja Foundation has portrayed Jalojo (born of water) as the theme of this year’s Durga Puja pandal at Kamal Ataturk Park in Banani highlighting the significance of water as the source of life, a sacred element and a symbol of divine power.

The theme draws on both modern scientific understanding of the origin of life and ancient Vedic philosophy, which recognises water as a fundamental element of creation, said organizers.

In Sanatan tradition, water symbolises purity and divinity and plays a central role in religious rituals. Through Jalojo, the foundation seeks to portray the deep connection between water, human life, nature and spiritual belief.

“We have selected separate theme in every year. This year, we have selected ‘Jalojo’. In fact, during the present global situation there are most impact on water,” foundation’s general secretary Binoy Gopal Roy told BSS.

He added: “Our Bangladesh is one of the riverine countries. There were a good number of rivers across the country. But, many of those rivers are on the brink of extinction. Those people who were involved and survived by the rivers became jobless. They are facing hardship. Considering the situation and raising awareness, we have selected the theme.”

The pandal has been designed as an expansive aquatic landscape, combining architecture, engineering, traditional crafts, lighting and intricate ornamentation. Built with eco-friendly materials, including bamboo, cane, natural fibres and jute, the structure evokes waves in motion.

Waterfalls, reflection pools and carefully planned lighting create an immersive experience, guiding visitors from the entrance towards the inner sanctum.

At its centre, Goddess Durga, the embodiment of primordial power, stands within a large lotus-shaped structure against a conch-shell backdrop, symbolising a lotus blooming from the depths of water.

The design features indigo blue, terracotta red and straw beige, reflecting the colours of water and earth.

Beyond its religious significance, Jalojo conveys a message of environmental protection and global responsibility.

At a time when climate change, river encroachment and water pollution threaten water systems worldwide, the theme calls for protecting water resources to preserve life, heritage and the future of generations to come.

The installation has been planned, designed and supervised by architect Amiti Kundu and artist-researcher Partho Pratim Saha.
