(BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today made a surprise visit to Tejgaon Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and issued strict instructions to ensure prompt, transparent and effective police services for the people.

During the visit this afternoon, the minister inspected the overall law and order situation, infrastructure and quality of police services being provided to citizens at the police station, said a press release.

He spoke with police personnel on duty and visited various parts of the station, including administrative rooms of police officers, the duty officer`s room, investigation officers` offices, the lock-up, police barracks and dining facilities.

During inspecting the barracks, Salahuddin gave directives to ensure proper accommodation for police personnel, quality food at the mess and a clean environment.

Simultaneously, he inquired about the specific schedules and working conditions of night duty and shifting duties of police personnel.

The minister also spoke directly with people who had come to the police station seeking services. He patiently heard the problems of people who had come to file general diaries (GDs) or complaints and immediately instructed the officer-in-charge and other concerned officials to resolve their complaints as quickly and transparently as possible.

"The primary responsibility of the police is to protect and serve the people. A police station must become a place of trust and confidence for every citizen," Salahuddin said.

"We are committed to ensuring an environment where citizens can come to the police station fearlessly and spontaneously and report their problems directly without any intermediary," he added.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir and DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed accompanied the minister during the visit.
