Special Correspondent: High Commissioner Mr. Imran Haider met with Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam; Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, today at the latter’s office. The discussions focused on enhancing educational cooperation, promoting research collaborations, and faculty and student exchange programmes.

The High Commissioner briefed the Vice Chancellor on the keen interest being shown by Bangladeshi students in the Allama Iqbal Scholarships being offered under the Pakistan–Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor initiative. Both sides agreed that education remains one of the strongest foundations for building mutual understanding, fostering collaboration and strengthening the longstanding ties between the brotherly peoples of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Later, the High Commissioner and the Vice Chancellor jointly inaugurated the High Commission sponsored Computer Lab and the renovated classroom facilities at the Urdu Department of the University of Dhaka.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Islam said that the Urdu Department, established on July 1, 1921, is one of the university`s oldest and most traditional departments. For over a century, the department has been making significant contributions to the study of language, literature, and culture. He appreciated the High Commission’s contribution towards the uplift of the Urdu Department.

In his remarks, Mr. Haider noted that the initiative reflects the shared commitment of both countries to advancing education, promoting cultural affinities and investing in the future of young people. He thanked the University of Dhaka for preserving and nurturing its Urdu Department, which stands as a testament to the University’s commitment to linguistic diversity, literary scholarship and cultural exchange.

Furthermore, he wished the faculty and students continued success in their academic pursuits and expressed confidence that educational and cultural cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh would continue to grow.
