Netanyahu claims stolen election amid failure to secure victory
  29, October, 2026, 11:15:59:AM

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party on Wednesday said that voter fraud perpetrated by Arab citizens prevented him from winning a clear victory in the country’s election.

In a statement from Likud reposted on social media by Netanyahu, the right-wing party railed against early results from Tuesday night’s elections, claiming “evidence of election theft in many Arab polling stations” and urging law enforcement agencies to “act harshly and swiftly.”

Those accusations have not been verified, nor did Likud provide any evidence to support its claims. According to local media, Israeli police have said there is no evidence to suggest Arab parties meddled in the election.

Results of Tuesday night’s election are not yet clear. With neither Netanyahu’s alliance nor challenger Gadi Eisenkot’s opposition coming close to the requisite 61-seat majority, a coalition government of some form is a real possibility. That all but guarantees a weekslong process of negotiations to shape a new Israeli government.

Record-high turnout from Arab voters in Israel reflected the degree of anger and frustration over Netanyahu’s policies toward the Palestinian population. Arab parties surpassed expectations, according to Israeli news, nearly doubling their total seats from 10 to 19 and handing them potential leverage over the future of the government. It’s unclear whether opponents of Netanyahu would go so far as to form a coalition with them to unseat the prime minister.

As the numbers rolled in Tuesday, Netanyahu made a series of social media posts aimed at stoking fear about Arab turnout. The embattled prime minister put out urgent pleas for right-wing supporters to go to the polls, invoking race-based messaging to galvanize voters by saying busloads of Arab voters were being ferried to polling stations while right-wing citizens slept and warning that without Likud voters, the Muslim Brotherhood could take control of the government.

While Tuesday’s election failed to deliver an anticipated decisive blow to Netanyahu, it underscored deep divisions within Israel over the longtime leader’s grip on power. It also could serve as a potential preview of what simmering frustrations with the joint U.S.-Israel war on Iran might look like for the Trump administration ahead of next week’s midterm elections.

Although Trump isn’t on the ballot, U.S. voters are expected to take their frustrations over the monthslong war and surging gas prices out on Republican candidates across the country.

As Netanyahu faced down an angry electorate this week, Trump handed him not one but two endorsements, suggesting that if his Israeli counterpart remained in office, they would “finish the job” against Iran together.
