International, September 29 : China has issued the “15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the New-Type Battery Industry.” The plan was recently jointly released by seven departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission. It sets a goal of steadily expanding the scale of China’s new-type battery industry by 2030.

New-type batteries refer to high-performance electricity storage and conversion devices or systems developed around innovations in new mechanisms, materials, structures and technologies. Lithium batteries, sodium batteries and flow batteries are notable examples. These batteries are characterized by rapid technological advancement, broad application potential, and strong scalability and impact.

According to the plan, by 2030, the innovation capabilities of the entire industrial chain of China’s new-type battery industry will be further strengthened. It also states that new breakthroughs will be achieved in various areas, including advanced electrodes and new types of electrolytes. At the same time, significant progress will be made in the research and development of new system-based batteries.

The plan aims to enable the new-type battery industry to make a greater contribution to the green and low-carbon transformation of the global economy and society.

The plan states that all-solid-state batteries will initially reach the stage of large-scale application, while the service life of long-life lithium batteries will be extended to as many as 15,000 cycles.

In addition, according to the plan, new-type battery technologies will be rapidly integrated with clean energy and various end-use systems that consume electricity to promote coordinated innovation and development. This will further accelerate the development and upgrading of smart terminal products. At the same time, it will enable more efficient electrification across various fields, including smart terminals, vehicles, ships, aircraft and intelligent robots.
