International : Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, met with Milton Dick, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Australian Federal Parliament, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the meeting held on September 20, Zhao Leji said Chinese President Xi Jinping and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held a successful meeting in Beijing last year. That meeting provided new strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations.

He said China is willing to work with Australia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen friendly exchanges, enhance mutual political trust and expand practical cooperation.

Zhao Leji also said that through the joint efforts of the two countries over the past several years, bilateral relations have made significant progress, while cooperation in various fields has also advanced steadily.

He said facts have demonstrated that peaceful coexistence on the basis of equality, seeking common ground while setting aside differences, and mutually beneficial cooperation are in line with the fundamental interests of both countries.

He said both sides should further consolidate the political foundation of bilateral relations, respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, and properly handle differences and sensitive issues. He also said cooperation should be strengthened in agriculture, mineral resources and energy, while cooperation should be expanded in green development, clean energy, the digital economy and addressing climate change.

Zhao Leji also said China is willing to continuously strengthen exchanges in education, culture, tourism and among young people. At the same time, he called on the two countries to cooperate in upholding the international system centered on the United Nations and the international order based on international law, and in building a fairer and more reasonable global governance system.

Milton Dick said practical cooperation between Australia and China in various fields has benefited economic and trade exchanges.

He said members of the Australian parliamentary delegation visiting China this time come from different regions and political parties of the country. He added that the long-term and stable development of bilateral relations is the shared expectation of all.

Dick said Australia adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields, including trade, culture, agriculture, mineral resources, climate change and artificial intelligence.
