International: A film and culture carnival organized by China Media Group (CMG) has kicked off in Tianjin, a major city in northern China.

The event, which began on Friday, is being held under the theme “2026 Year of Film Economy Development.” It aims to stimulate public interest and boost consumer spending through a range of entertainment and cultural activities centered on cinema.

Alongside film screenings, the carnival features activities designed to integrate culture, commerce and tourism. Tianjin authorities will offer various discounts and special services to visitors who present their cinema ticket stubs, while also launching a dedicated cultural and tourism route.

Two fairs also opened on the day at Qinwan Plaza and the Binhai Cultural Center. Running for seven days, the fairs will offer visitors opportunities to experience the film industry, enjoy free open-air screenings, explore film-themed exhibitions and discover a variety of traditional Chinese handicrafts and cultural products.

One of the key objectives of the event is to create new consumer and cultural experiences by bringing cinema, traditional culture and urban life closer together.

The film and culture carnival is jointly organized by China Media Group and the Tianjin Municipal Government under the guidance of the China Film Administration.
