China’s Global Governance Initiative: Why the Proposal Is Winning Support Worldwide
  19, June, 2026, 10:32:22:PM

International: Why has China’s Global Governance Initiative continued to receive support from various sectors and countries around the world since it was first proposed in September 2025?

The answer can be found in the white paper titled “Building a Fairer and More Equitable Global Governance System: China’s Concepts, Actions and Vision,” released by the Chinese government on June 17.

The document clearly explains the background and significance of the Global Governance Initiative. It comprehensively outlines China’s participation and contributions to the reform and development of global governance, while further elaborating the country’s objectives, principles, positions, actions and future plans in this field. The white paper has also helped enhance the international community’s understanding of the value and importance of the initiative.

The international landscape is currently experiencing the most profound and complex changes since the end of the Second World War. Against this backdrop, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative in September 2025, offering China’s answers to key questions such as what kind of global governance system should be established and how global governance can be reformed and improved.

The initiative responds to the shared aspirations of countries seeking better global governance and broadens the path toward building a community with a shared future for mankind. For this reason, it has received extensive support and positive responses from the international community. Within just nine months of its launch, the initiative has begun evolving from a Chinese proposal into a platform for international implementation, demonstrating strong vitality and momentum.

Today, the world has entered a new era of transformation. More than ever before, humanity needs to strengthen multilateralism, uphold the rule of law, and improve governance efficiency.

To effectively implement the Global Governance Initiative, safeguarding the central role of the United Nations remains essential. According to the white paper, the UN is the most important and primary platform for practicing multilateralism and advancing global governance. Its role and authority should therefore be further strengthened.

Analysts believe that the Global Governance Initiative is consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and aligns with the shared expectations of the majority of countries to uphold multilateralism and restore the authority of the United Nations.

Today’s world is complex and constantly evolving, and meaningful change is never easy. Yet, despite the challenges, progress is achievable through collective determination and sustained efforts. The ultimate goal of the Global Governance Initiative is to promote the common well-being of the international community, which depends on the joint efforts of all nations.

China has pledged to continue serving as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, a defender of the international order, and a provider of global public goods. Working together with countries around the world, China will continue striving to advance the implementation of the Global Governance Initiative.
