International: Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman in Beijing on Wednesday, May 6.

During the meeting, Wang Huning said that President Xi Jinping’s historic state visit to Bangladesh in 2016 laid the foundation for the continued development of China-Bangladesh relations.

He stated that China remains committed to advancing friendly ties with Bangladesh based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, strengthening high-level exchanges, firmly supporting each other on core interests, deepening cooperation across various sectors, and further enhancing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries for the benefit of their peoples.

Wang also noted that the National Committee of the CPPCC is willing to make positive contributions toward achieving these goals.

In response, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman described China as a “true friend” of Bangladesh. He reaffirmed that Bangladesh consistently regards China as a diplomatic priority and firmly adheres to the One-China principle.

The minister stressed Bangladesh’s unwavering support for United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and China’s national reunification efforts. He also expressed Dhaka’s interest in carrying forward the longstanding friendship between the two countries, expanding practical cooperation, and elevating Bangladesh-China relations to a higher level.
