| Kamrul Hasan: As part of the government’s comprehensive preparations to ensure smooth and safe passenger services during this year’s Hajj season, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, conducted an on-site inspection at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
On Friday night, she formally marked the commencement of the Hajj journey by exchanging greetings with the first group of pilgrims, inquiring about their well-being, and presenting them with floral greetings.
According to concerned officials, the minister’s presence went beyond mere formality, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving service quality and reducing the long-standing hardships faced by pilgrims. Observers viewed her direct interaction with passengers and immediate instructions to officials as a positive initiative.
Minister Afroza Khanam Rita said, “All necessary preparations have been completed to alleviate the long-standing hardships of Hajj pilgrims. All concerned agencies must remain highly alert and responsible to ensure that no inconvenience or disruption occurs during the journey.” She also emphasized professionalism, patience, and accountability among officials.
Referring to recent government initiatives, she noted that coordinated measures have already been taken in airport management, immigration procedures, baggage handling, and flight scheduling. She also highlighted efforts to ensure more dignified and convenient travel for Hajj pilgrims and migrant workers, whom she described as “remittance warriors.”
Every year during the Hajj season, flight delays, baggage complications, and overcrowding at the airport pose major challenges for passengers.
However, officials expressed hope that improved advance preparations, inter-agency coordination, and strengthened field-level monitoring will lead to better conditions this year.
The minister also sought prayers from the pilgrims for the country’s prosperity and well-being, as well as for the good health and longevity of the national leadership.
Among others present were State Minister Md Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP; Secretary of the Ministry Fahmida Akhter (NDC); and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, Air Vice Marshal Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq, along with other senior officials. It is worth noting that the inaugural Hajj flight is scheduled to be officially launched at 12:30 am tonight.
The flight is expected to depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport carrying 419 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
