| A fire broke out on a ferry operating on the Paturia-Daulatdia river route on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Paturia ferry ghat while the vessel Keramat Ali was stationed at the terminal.
According to eyewitnesses, flames and thick black smoke suddenly emerged from the ferry’s silencer pipe, alarming passengers and drivers onboard. However, no injuries were reported.
Upon receiving information, a team from Shibalaya Fire Service rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control within a short time.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Deputy General Manager Abdus Salam said such incidents may occur if the silencer pipe becomes clogged. He added that the fire was minor and caused no damage.
Ferry movement on the route remained normal following the incident, officials confirmed.
