Edu minister bans students from standing on streets to greet officials

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has announced a complete ban on arranging students along roads to welcome ministers or guests.

Teachers and students will no longer be required to stand in the sun to offer receptions or greetings.

The minister made the statement on Friday during an award-giving ceremony at Kachua upazila in Chandpur district held as part of National Education Week.

On his way to the event, he expressed displeasure after seeing students lined up along the roadside to greet him.

Minister Milon emphasized, “I must move around like an ordinary citizen. No student should be made to stand on the street for me. No teacher should ever arrange students for my reception.” He added that seeing students or teachers along the roads for such purposes would be unacceptable and that there is no need to cause students discomfort through any form of ceremonial greeting.

Addressing teachers, the minister instructed them to promptly dismiss students and send them home.

Speaking to students directly, he said, “You will never have to stand in the sun on the streets again. There is no need to come out and greet me. I will visit schools myself and meet you there.”

Later, the minister interacted with students, inquiring about their studies and future plans.

The ceremony was attended by Kachua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmudul Hasan Rasel, Kachua Upazila BNP President Khairul Abedin Swapan, Kachua Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Borhan Uddin, as well as officials from various departments, teachers and local political leaders.
