| Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate Kamruzzaman Kamrul has secured a decisive victory in Sunamganj-1 constituency, according to unofficial results compiled from all 177 polling centers.
Vote counting completed on Thursday showed that Kamrul, a former organizing secretary of the Sunamganj district BNP and former chairman of Tahirpur Upazila Parishad, received 164,261 votes.
His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidate Maulana Vice Principal Tofayel Ahmed Khan, contesting with the balance scale symbol, secured 89,334 votes, giving Kamrul a winning margin of nearly 75,000 votes.
Sunamganj-1, which covers the upazilas of Dharampasha, Madhyanagar, Tahirpur, and Jamalganj, has a total of 501,555 registered voters. Kamrul maintained a strong lead across all four upazilas, outperforming his opponent in every area.
In Tahirpur, Kamrul received 61,247 votes against 32,359 for his rival, a margin of 28,888 votes.
In Dharampasha, he secured 36,406 votes compared with 20,244, leading by 16,162 votes.
In Madhyanagar, he polled 25,187 votes against 12,498, a margin of 12,689. In Jamalganj, Kamrul obtained 40,865 votes, while his opponent received 26,075, giving him a lead of 14,790 votes.
