Sarjis, Naushad vow to work together to develop Panchagarh

(BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and National Citizen Party (NCP) nominated candidates for Panchagarh-1 constituency Barrister Muhammad Naushad Zamir and Sarjis Alam have vowed to work together for the development of their constituency.

They echoed the same sentiment while responding to various queries of newsmen after scrutiny of nomination papers for the upcoming general election slated to be held on February 12 at the Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner`s conference room this afternoon.

During that time, they hugged each other and set an example of cordial relations between the NCP and BNP.

“BNP nominated candidate Barrister Naushad Zamir is my brother . . . We are completing this process based on mutual respect,” Sarjis told journalists.

He added, “Our cordial relations will continue until the last day of the election and even after the election. In the post uprising period, our commitment to the people and the country will always remain the same.”

The NCP leader further said their political ideologies are different, but they would continue to work together for the benefit of Panchagarh and the country as well.

BNP leader Barrister Muhammad Naushad Zamir said, “The party is in deep mourning over the death of our national leader Begum Khaleda Zia. Despite all these, we are doing polls activities in line with the constitution.”

He added, “I completely agree with what Sarjis Alam said. The parties and ideologies may be different, but we will all work equally for Bangladesh and for the welfare of the people of Panchagarh through a fair and impartial national election.”

A total of 19 candidates filed nomination papers for two constituencies in Panchagarh district.

After scrutiny, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Kazi Md Sayemuzzaman declared the nomination papers of one candidate in Panchagarh-1 constituency and six candidates in Panchagarh-2 constituency invalid.

Meanwhile, the nomination papers of seven candidates in Panchagarh-1 constituency and five candidates in Panchagarh-2 constituency have been declared valid.

The nomination of JAGPA candidate Rashed Pradhan in Panchagarh-1 constituency was cancelled.

Besides, the nomination papers of independent candidates Rahimul Islam Bulbul, Mahmud Hossain Sumon, JAGPA candidate Rashed Pradhan, LDP candidate Rezaul Islam, Jatiya Party`s Lutfar Rahman and Communist Party`s Ashraful Islam were declared invalid in Panchagarh-2 constituency.
