Madaripur youth shot in Libya missing for 11 days
  19, September, 2025, 10:19:15:PM

Life has come to a standstill for the family of young Madaripur resident Jibon Dhali, who has been missing for 11 days after being shot in Libya.

Jibon, a resident of Ziar village in Ward No. 2 of Mostafapur Union, Sadar Upazila, is the son of Kalam Dhali. According to family sources, six months ago he left home with the intention of traveling illegally to Italy after being lured by a human trafficking syndicate based in Jhikharhati village, Ghatmajhi Union, Sadar Upazila.

On the way, the traffickers took him captive in Libya and extorted several lakh taka from his family.

On September 8, Libyan mafia members opened fire indiscriminately at young people from different countries who were being held in a single room. Jibon was seriously injured in the attack and admitted to a local hospital, but no trace of him has been found since then.

Due to threats from the traffickers, the family is afraid to speak directly with the media.

Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Jahangir Alam said, “Police visited the family after receiving news that a youth was shot in Libya. Some say he has died, while others say he is missing. Legal action will be taken once the family files a written complaint.”
