Soumya named Player of the Match, Rishad shines as Player of the Series
  24, October, 2025, 12:34:39:AM

Bangladesh all-rounder Soumya Sarkar was named Player of the Match, while young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain claimed the Player of the Series award as Bangladesh sealed a dominant ODI series victory over the West Indies at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Returning to the national side, Soumya struck a brilliant 91-run innings in the final ODI, narrowly missing out on a century but powering Bangladesh to a commanding 296-run total.

His innings laid the foundation for a 179-run win, earning him Man of the Match award.

Soumya, who had scored 45 in the second ODI, said after the game that his comeback was fuelled by hard work and family support.

“There’s a story of hard work and perseverance behind this,” he said. “My wife and family have been incredibly supportive. I just tried to meet the expectations of the fans. I’m happy to be back and scoring runs again.”

Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain enjoyed a sensational series with the ball, taking 12 wickets across three matches.

In the opening ODI, he made history as the first Bangladeshi spinner to take six wickets in an innings, achieving the third-best ODI bowling figures in the country’s history; behind Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Rubel Hossain.

He followed up with three wickets apiece in the next two matches and contributed useful runs in the first two games.

Reflecting on his performance, Rishad credited his fellow bowlers for their teamwork.

“My teammates supported me really well,” he told broadcasters after the match. “That’s why it was a collective team effort. I’m happy with my performance and the way we played as a unit.”

Bangladesh’s emphatic series win and the performances of both Soumya and Rishad mark a strong statement as the team looks ahead to future international challenges.
