Ilias Kanchan undergoes partial brain tumor surgery in London
  1, October, 2025, 10:41:51:PM

Veteran Bangladeshi actor and road safety activist Ilias Kanchan is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor at Wellington Hospital in London, his son Joy revealed during a virtual press conference on Wednesday.

The surgery was performed on August 5, 2025, by Professor Demetrius and his team.

However, doctors could not completely remove the tumor due to its sensitive location in the brain.

A full removal risked life-threatening complications, including potential paralysis or loss of speech and mobility, Joy explained.

As a result, only a portion of the tumor was surgically removed.

The remaining part will now be treated through a six-week regimen of radiation and chemotherapy, scheduled to begin this month.

Following treatment, doctors will observe his condition for four weeks before determining the next steps and evaluating the possibility of his return to Bangladesh.

Kanchan’s health journey began in early April when he was diagnosed with the tumor at Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhaka.

He later underwent further evaluation at National Institute of Neurosciences at Agargaon, where a medical board warned of the high risks associated with surgery due to the tumor’s location at a critical nerve junction.

He traveled to London on April 26 for further treatment.

The press conference, held at National Press Club, was organized by Nirapad Sarak Chai (Nischa), road safety advocacy organization Kanchan founded.

Joy, who is currently serving as acting chairman of the organization, joined the event virtually from Canada.

He concluded by urging the people of Bangladesh to pray for his father`s full and speedy recovery.
