A Jamaat leader was killed and two activists injured in a road accident in Faridpur while traveling to the national Jamaat-e-Islami rally in Dhaka early Saturday.
The incident took place around 3:00 AM at Bhanga Bus Stand area in the district.
The deceased, Maulana Abu Saeed, was the Ameer of Khulna District`s Dakop upazila unit Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to locals, a group of leaders and activists had departed from Dakop by bus to attend the national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka. When the convoy had stopped for a break in Bhanga, Maulana Abu Saeed stepped out of the bus.
A speedy bus belonging to Royal Paribahan, at one point, coming from the opposite direction, collided with him, leaving him death and three others injured on the spot.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Bhanga Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Rokibuzzaman confirmed the matter.
