| (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal today called for building a humane Bangladesh based on the participation of people from all faiths and communities.
"Hills, plains, ethnicity, communities or religion cannot be grounds for division in our identity, as we are all citizens of Bangladesh and Bangladeshis," he said.
He stressed the need to establish a Bangladesh based on equality, freedom and human dignity by ensuring the constitutional rights of all, adding that the present government is working towards that goal.
He also said every religion teaches people to seek the satisfaction of the Creator. If everyone follows their respective religious teachings properly, society will become more beautiful and peaceful.
The Deputy Speaker made the remarks while addressing Dhaka Wangala 2026 as chief guest at the playground of Banani Bidyaniketan School and College in the capital today.
Referring to the recent Durga Puja celebrations, he said this year`s festival in post-independence Bangladesh was exceptionally festive.
"Never before has Durga Puja been celebrated in such a joyful and festive atmosphere in this country," he said.
He attributed the atmosphere to the establishment of the rule of law and the restoration of democracy, saying people of all religions, ethnicities and colours now have the right to express their opinions.
He said people are now able to enjoy religious freedom as their legal and constitutional rights have been established.
Recalling Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman`s contributions to the country`s cultural heritage, Kayser Kamal said Ziaur Rahman had established 10 cultural academies across the country, including one in Durgapur of Netrokona, bringing together people from different walks of life.
Responding to demands from the organisers of Dhaka Wangala 2026, the Deputy Speaker assured them that initiatives would soon be taken to establish a cultural academy and a church in the Banani area.
