| (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today stressed the need for employment generation and infrastructure development in the city`s Khalishpur and Daulatpur areas, where the closure of industrial units has reportedly worsened socioeconomic conditions.
He said industrial closures had left many people unemployed, adversely affecting local businesses and residents` access to education, healthcare and housing.
Manju made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists and local residents during an inspection of mosquito control and cleanliness activities in wards 2 and 3 on Tuesday.
The inspections are part of a three-month mosquito control and cleanliness campaign announced by the Prime Minister to prevent dengue transmission. The KCC administrator has been visiting different wards to monitor its implementation.
Despite the decline in dengue infections, Manju stressed the importance of maintaining a healthy environment. He also said initiatives would be taken to improve the living standards of low-income families.
Calling on private development and voluntary organisations to work alongside the KCC, he said collective efforts could improve livelihoods in the two areas.
During the visit, Manju inspected Helal`s Basti-1 and Basti-2 and the Rail Line Basti area.
