| WR Desk: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) adopted a resolution on Jammu and Kashmir during its 52nd Council of Foreign Ministers session in Baghdad.
The Kashmir resolution formed part of the session’s broader deliberations on political issues affecting the Muslim world. The meeting brought together member states on October 17–18, 2026. The session also addressed Palestine, Muslim minorities and Islamophobia.
The two-day meeting was held under the theme, “Dialogue and Solidarity: Two Essential Pillars for Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development.”
OIC Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed announced the session’s successful conclusion. He thanked Iraq’s leadership, government and people for hosting the meeting.
The session adopted the Baghdad Declaration and several resolutions. These reaffirmed support for Palestinian rights and statehood, with Al-Quds as the capital. Delegates also addressed political developments in member states and the rights of Muslim communities.
The meeting further considered economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific matters. Its outcomes reflected a common position among participating OIC member states.
The OIC secretary-general stressed the need to move beyond adopting resolutions. He called for consensus on their implementation.
For Kashmir, the dispute remains unresolved despite longstanding international attention. The United Nations has adopted resolutions envisaging a plebiscite to determine the territory’s future. Kashmiris continue to seek their right to self-determination under those resolutions.
The OIC has repeatedly included Jammu and Kashmir among the political issues addressed by its member states. The Baghdad session’s Kashmir resolution again places the dispute within the organisation’s deliberations.
