International: China’s influence in global governance is steadily increasing, and its vision of building a “community with a shared future for mankind” is highly aligned with the purposes and principles of the United Nations, said the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in China, Stefan Jackson.

In an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG), Jackson shared his impressions of the growing engagement between China and various UN agencies since he assumed office in April.

He described China’s role on the global stage as increasingly visible, constructive, and multilateral in nature.

“This is a complex time,” he said. “China’s engagement is highly visible, constructive, and multilateral. China is acting as a constructive voice on the global stage, emphasizing dialogue over conflict. For the sake of the world’s interests, it is essential to advance multilateralism and reach consensus through dialogue among member states.”

He further emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, “We are better together than apart. Only by working together can we secure a better future. The core principle of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — ‘leaving no one behind’ — essentially reflects the idea of a shared future.”

Since 2021, China has launched four major global initiatives: the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative. According to Jackson, these initiatives are highly effective in addressing global challenges such as climate change, poverty reduction, inequality, and artificial intelligence governance.
