| Government and private offices, banks, insurance companies and the stock market reopened on Monday after a seven-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday.
The holiday ran from May 25 to May 31, following the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha on May 28, with the government extending the break through executive order for smooth Eid travel.
With offices reopening, employees returned to work while a large number of holidaymakers continued to arrive in Dhaka, increasing pressure on transport networks and traffic in the capital.
Officials said office activities may remain relatively slow on the first working day as employees exchange Eid greetings and resume routine operations.
Essential services, including electricity, water, gas, telecommunications, healthcare and emergency services, remained operational throughout the holiday period, according to the Ministry of Public Administration.
