  08-05-2026

(BSS)- Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon observed that the books and journals produced in Bangladesh can have a global market as a exportable item.

“We have the capacity to publish good quality books and journals at a lower price comparing to the developed world, and it will certainly help us to have a competitive position in the global market,” he said.

The minister said this while addressing a seminar titled ‘Role of publishers and sellers in developing social awareness’ here today.

Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association (BAPUS) organized the programme at Bangla Academy.

The minister said as the price of the books is higher in the developed world than us, we can supply books at comparatively in low price due to our technical capacity and low cost of labour.

“We have the potential to become one of the largest book exporter countries in the world if we can exploit this opportunity,” he opined saying BAPUS can play a leading role to this end.

The minister said the business of publication is an ancient and respectable profession. Those who are associated with this profession are the ‘beacon of the society’ who can play role to build an educated and enlightened society.”

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Mir Shahe Alam and State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain also spoke on the occasion.

Country’s leading publishers and sellers attended the seminar while BAPUS president Rezaul Karim Badsha was in the chair.
