  10-04-2026

International: Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of strengthening political integrity and discipline within the armed forces.

He made the remarks while delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of a training program for senior military officers held at China’s National Defense University in Beijing on Wednesday.

Xi Jinping, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, said that it is necessary to deepen political reform in order to preserve the purity and honor of the country’s armed forces.

He noted that preparations should be made with renewed political awareness ahead of 2027, which marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army.

Highlighting the importance of ideals and conviction, Xi stated that being a member of the Party and the military means holding firm belief in Marxism and maintaining absolute loyalty to the Party. He urged senior military officers to speak the truth and actively participate in Party political activities.

Rejecting corruption and self-interest, he said such tendencies are contrary to the Party’s fundamental principles and objectives. He also called on military personnel to maintain simplicity, avoid extravagance, and remain committed to revolutionary values.

On the rule of law, Xi stressed that everyone is equal before laws and discipline, with no special privileges or exceptions allowed.

He expressed hope that, in the new historical context, the Chinese military will achieve greater unity and open a new chapter in building a world-class armed force.

The ceremony was presided over by Zhang Shengmin, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
