International: China will continue to play a constructive role in restoring peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Mao noted that since the outbreak of tensions centered on Iran, China has been actively working to promote a ceasefire and advance peace efforts.

She revealed that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has already held 26 phone conversations with relevant parties. Meanwhile, China’s Special Envoy for Middle East affairs has visited the region multiple times to facilitate mediation and promote dialogue.

Mao further stated that China, together with Pakistan, has proposed a five-point initiative aimed at bringing peace and stability back to the region.

Emphasizing China’s role as a responsible major country, she affirmed that China will continue to make positive contributions toward peace and stability in the Gulf region and the broader Middle East.
