  BNP begins selling nomination forms for reserved women’s seats

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will start selling nomination forms for reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament from Friday.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced that interested candidates can collect nomination forms from the party’s central office in the capital`s Nayapaltan from 11:00 AM onwards.

The price of each nomination form has been set at Tk2,000. Applicants must submit their completed forms by April 21 along with a deposit of Tk50,000.

The Election Commission has already announced the schedule for the reserved women’s seats, setting May 12 as the voting date.

The announcement was made by Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed during a briefing at Election Commission building in Agargaon on Wednesday.

According to the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is April 21, followed by scrutiny on April 22 and 23.

The period for filing appeals will be April 26, while the disposal of appeals is set for April 27 and 28.

Candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations on April 29 and election symbols will be allocated on April 30. Voting will take place on May 12.

Out of the 350 seats in the National Parliament, 50 are reserved for women. Of these, 36 seats are allocated to BNP, 13 to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies and one seat is reserved for independent candidates.
