| International: Delegations from China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan held a week-long informal meeting in Urumqi, Xinjiang, from April 1 to 7. The information was disclosed today (Wednesday) by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning during a regular press briefing in Beijing.
According to the spokesperson, the delegations comprised officials from the diplomatic, defense, and security sectors of the three countries. Afghanistan and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Both sides emphasized the need to resolve differences as soon as possible in order to restore bilateral relations.
China reiterated its commitment to facilitating communication and dialogue between the two countries by providing platforms for engagement. It also pledged to play a constructive role in improving Afghanistan-Pakistan relations and in enhancing practical cooperation among the three nations.
China noted that Afghanistan and Pakistan are not only neighboring countries but also brotherly Muslim nations. All three sides agreed that, amid the current complex international and regional landscape, a friendly relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan is crucial for bilateral ties as well as for peace and stability in South Asia. Dialogue and consultation were underscored as effective means to address differences.
