Kamrul Hasan: The current government has adopted a strategy to strengthen international partnerships in order to modernize and make Bangladesh’s aviation and tourism sectors more competitive. As part of this initiative, new prospects have emerged to further expand trade relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday (April 8) at noon, a courtesy meeting was held at the “Padma” hall of the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka between the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Afrozza Khanam Rita, MP, the State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP, and the UK Trade Envoy, Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized strengthening the existing trade relations between the two countries. Particular importance was given to enhancing international cooperation to support the implementation of the current government’s development-oriented policies and election manifesto. The UK Trade Envoy assured continued support for Bangladesh’s development journey.

The discussion also highlighted the potential for attracting new investments in the aviation and tourism sectors through the implementation of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). According to relevant sources, the agreement is expected to facilitate infrastructure development, service modernization, and capacity building by leveraging international expertise.
Special focus was placed on the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport.

The United Kingdom’s interest in participating in ground handling operations at this modern terminal is being viewed as a positive signal for Bangladesh’s aviation sector.

Stakeholders believe that the inclusion of foreign investment and technical support will enhance service quality and help meet international standards.
Following the meeting, Minister Afrozza Khanam Rita stated that the government aims to transform the aviation and tourism sectors into sustainable and profitable industries. To achieve this goal, partnerships with developed countries will be further expanded. The State Minister also stressed the importance of working through joint initiatives.

According to analysts, such high-level meetings, as part of the government’s diplomatic and economic strategy, will play a significant role in establishing Bangladesh more firmly on the global trade and investment map.
