| Kamrul Hasan: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afrozah Khanam Rita, MP, has issued strict directives to concerned officials and employees to ensure that the cargo clearance process at airports is fast, transparent, and free from harassment.
On Sunday (April 5), the minister gave these instructions during a surprise visit to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. During the visit, she directly observed the operations at the airport’s cargo terminal and emphasized the need to follow proper procedures to ensure swift and hassle-free release of goods.
The minister said, “Under the new democratic government, the cargo transportation system will be made completely free from harassment. A strict ‘zero tolerance’ policy against any form of corruption will be firmly implemented.”
As part of her visit, she also inspected the hangar complex of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. There, she inquired in detail about a technical fault in Flight BG 202 (Boeing 787-9). She instructed the concerned engineers and officials to complete maintenance of the central hydraulic system promptly and make the aircraft fit for operation again.
During the inspection, the minister also checked the aircraft’s cabin and cockpit, examining the functionality of various instruments and panels. Chairman of the Civil Aviation
Authority of Bangladesh, Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud Siddique, along with other senior officials, was present at the time.
It is worth mentioning that the aircraft had been grounded at Osmani International Airport due to a technical fault in the isolator of the central hydraulic system. Necessary repair work is currently underway to restore it to operation.
