  Smuggled goods worth Tk 3.5cr seized at B’baria border area

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk 3.5 crore in separate anti-smuggling drives in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district.

According to BGB, a special patrol team from Madla BOP under Sultanpur Battalion (BGB-60) conducted a drive near the Kashirampur area, about 100 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 2045/M. The team recovered 2,468 pieces of high-quality Indian sarees, with an estimated seizure value of Tk 2.06 crore.

In another drive, personnel from Shashidal BOP under Brahmanpara upazila seized 17,295 pieces of Indian eyewear and 100 kg of coffee from Chandkhola area, around 50 yards inside the border near pillar 2043/3-S. The seized items are valued at Tk 1.42 crore.

Confirming the drives at a press briefing on Monday afternoon, BGB-60 Battalion commanding officer Lt Col SM Shariful Islam said that the drives were carried out on Sunday night and early Monday.

He added that the seized items are being processed for handover to Akhaura Customs.

He noted that BGB-60 Battalion seized goods worth around Tk 140 crore in 2025, while items worth Tk 16.43 crore have already been confiscated as of March 30 this year. A total of 10 individuals have been arrested in connection with smuggling activities.
