A total of 2,080 garment factories in Dhaka and Chattogram have paid Eid bonuses to their workers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association confirmed this.

The association said there are currently 2,127 operational factories across the two main industrial areas including 1,785 in Dhaka and 342 in Chattogram.

Among these, 2,104 factories or 98.92 per cent have already disbursed salaries for February. This includes 1,767 factories in Dhaka and 337 in Chattogram.

In terms of Eid bonuses, 2,080 factories, representing 97.79 per cent, have completed payments. Of them, 1,753 are located in Dhaka and 327 in Chattogram.

Additionally, 870 factories, or 40.90 per cent, are expected to pay advance wages for March. This figure includes 840 factories in Dhaka and 30 in Chattogram.

The high rate of payments reflects a relatively stable situation in the country`s key garment sector ahead of the Eid season.
