Bangladesh Seeks to Lease Aircraft from Boeing
  6, April, 2026, 9:35:38:PM

Kamrul Hasan: As part of efforts to expand the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the government has expressed interest in leasing aircraft from the U.S.-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

On Monday (April 6) at around 11:30 am, Boeing Vice President Paul Righi met with Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Afrozah Khanam and State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat at the Secretariat. During the meeting, the interest in leasing aircraft was formally conveyed.

Various aspects of a (potential) agreement between Boeing and the interim government were discussed in detail. From Bangladesh’s side, interest was expressed in leasing aircraft from Boeing to meet current demand and enhance fleet capacity.

At the meeting, Paul Righi highlighted Boeing’s interest in leasing narrow-body aircraft, particularly from the B737 series.

Adviser Afrozah Khanam emphasized the importance of moving forward with the leasing process quickly.
It is worth noting that, as part of a broader plan to modernize and strengthen the fleet of Biman

Bangladesh Airlines, the government is moving towards finalizing the purchase of 14 Boeing aircraft. The first aircraft from Boeing is expected to be delivered to Bangladesh in October 2031.

The remaining aircraft are expected to be delivered by November 2035. To address a (possible) five-year delay in delivery, Bangladesh has expressed interest in leasing aircraft from Boeing on an interim basis.
