He made the remarks while responding to journalists` questions following a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen at the Secretariat on Sunday (April 5).

The Foreign Minister said that the government has no binding obligations regarding fuel imports. In the recent meeting, general discussions were held on bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly on energy, trade, and development cooperation.

Additionally, the issue of continued US support in addressing the Rohingya crisis was given special importance.

The minister further said that the United States remains the largest donor country for the Rohingyas in the world, and the continuation of this support was discussed.

Regarding cooperation in energy sector, the Foreign Minister said discussions have taken place with top officials of the US Department of Energy. Although some topics could not be disclosed at this moment due to confidentiality, the US has assured that it will provide all kinds of cooperation to ensure Bangladesh`s energy security.

In response to a question about how the United States will assist in addressing the country`s current energy crisis, he said the government is trying to import energy from various sources.

In this case, oil will be purchased from the most cost-effective source. India, the Middle East, or the United States"all options remain open for the government.

Meanwhile, when asked about the PM`s possible foreign trip, the Foreign Minister said the matter is still in the preliminary stage and no specific country has been finalized for the visit. He added that the government`s main goal is to maintain normal fuel supply and ensure the country`s energy security.

For this, efforts to procure fuel from the most competitive and cost-effective sources in the global market will continue.
