| Special measles vaccination campaign will start from May 3 to combat the recent surge in infections.
Besides, a targeted vaccination drive will also begin on May 12 in Dhaka North and South City Corporations, as well as in Mymensingh and Barishal districts.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain made the announcement while inaugurating an emergency measles vaccination program in Nawabganj, Dhaka, on Sunday (April 5).
He said the campaign will initially begin across the country and later expand in phases to ensure all children are protected from the disease.
``Measles has reached a concerning level in the country and it cannot be taken lightly. The situation is no less alarming than the COVID-19 pandemic.``
The minister added that vaccination efforts will be gradually extended to all districts and upazilas to ensure no child remains at risk.
Meanwhile, a separate immunization campaign has already begun today in 30 upazilas across 18 districts, targeting children aged between 6 months and 59 months.
Health authorities have urged parents and guardians to ensure their children receive the vaccine as part of the government`s effort to contain the outbreak.
