The injured were identified as Selim, 25, son of Ariful Islam Hanif, a resident of Panditpara, and Sumon, 28, son of Sultan from Munna Para in the district.

According to locals, Selim and Sumon were part of a group of approximately 10 individuals who attempted to cross the border illegally. Members of the BSF`s Daulatpur Camp under the 71st Battalion allegedly opened fire on them, striking Selim and Sumon.

Their companions reportedly brought them back into Bangladeshi territory and kept them hidden throughout the day before admitting them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in the afternoon.

Lt Col Fahad Mahmud Rinku, commander of BGB Battalion-53, stated that Selim had sustained gunshot wounds.

Communication had been established with BSF officials at Daulatpur Camp, but they denied firing on Bangladeshi nationals, he added.

An investigation into the incident was currently underway.
