Canada backs Bangladesh’s peaceful electoral transition
  19, October, 2025, 7:27:54:PM

Canada has reaffirmed its support for Bangladesh on Sunday as the country prepares for a peaceful transition through free, fair, inclusive, and participatory elections.

The July National Charter, recently signed by political parties, lays out key democratic reforms for implementation, the Canadian High Commission said in a social media post.

On October 17, Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh joined other members of the diplomatic community to witness the signing of the charter, marking what officials described as an “important moment” in Bangladesh’s history after over a year of consensus-building by the interim government.

Following the signing, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus highlighted that the charter symbolizes a spirit of unity, which will guide the country toward the upcoming national election. He expressed optimism that a fair and festive election would be held in February next year, urging all political actors to maintain unity.

"We are talking about the elections. The tune we played together today is a tune of unity. We will move forward to the election with this same spirit," Professor Yunus said
