| Preparations for the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, Sharadiya Durga Puja are in full swing in seven upazila of Gaibandha district, with 587 mandaps getting ready for the festivities that begin on September 27.
The idols are already being crafted at various locations. They are currently being shaped with clay and will soon be adorned with paint.
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad Gaibandha Branch acting general secretary Bimal Chandra Sarkar confirmed the information on Saturday and said that there are 93 mandaps in Gaibandha Sadar upazila, 107 in Sadullapur, 56 in Palashbari, 129 in Sundarganj, 133 in Gobindaganj, 16 in Phulchhari, and 53 in Saghatta.
The president of the organisation, Poresh Chandra Sarkar said that a preparatory meeting was held with the Gaibandha District Police to ensure the peaceful and joyous celebration of Durga Puja. The meeting was attended by Rangpur DIG Aminul Islam, who discussed maintaining communal harmony and law and order, providing various directives.
He reassured everyone that the festival would be celebrated in a festive atmosphere without any unpleasant incidents.
Gaibandha Superintendent of Police Nishat Anjuma said that the district police`s security plan for a peaceful and safe celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja has been communicated to all present, including the Puja Udjapan Committee.
She added that strict surveillance will be maintained to ensure the peaceful completion of the puja and stern legal action will be taken against anyone involved in creating chaos or disturbances during the festival.
