To address the shortage of doctors in hospitals, the government has decided to recruit 2,000 doctors through a special BCS, according to Syedur Rahman, Special Assistant Professor at the Ministry of Health.

Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday (March 13), Syedur Rahman stated that the current age limit for doctors to take the BCS exam is 32 years. A proposal has been submitted to extend this limit to 34 years.

Professor Syedur Rahman also mentioned that doctors had gone on strike on Wednesday due to their long-standing grievances regarding salaries and benefits, which had been overlooked by the previous government. He assured that the current administration is actively working to address their concerns, and the interim government will soon take necessary steps to resolve these issues.

He urged all medical professionals to fulfil their responsibilities, adding that doctors had withdrawn their strike following government assurances. However, some intern doctors and medical students are still absent from classes.

To ensure the safety of both doctors and patients, the Health Protection Act is expected to be presented at the Advisory Council meeting within the next two to three weeks.
